Antique French Silver Plate Flatware Set, Dinner Spoons and Forks,

Coffee Spoons, Ladle, Armand Frenais, 37 pcs

This exquisite French thirty-seven piece flatware set, dating from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, is designed in a handsome Louis XVI style with “rubans croisés” (crossed ribbons), laurel branches and acanthus leaves. The set is made up of 12 dinner spoons, 12 dinner forks, 12 coffee spoons and a ladle. Each piece bears the maker’s marks of “Armand Frenais”. The first mark consists of the name “A. Frenais” written in block letters along with the indication “Blanc 8”. The second mark consists of the initials “A.F.” surrounding the image of an anchor and the number indicating the silver content in grams (84 gr. for the forks and spoons, 18 gr. for the coffee spoons and 12 gr. for the ladle). One coffee spoon is engraved with the number “26” on the back. The Armand Frenais company, located on the Boulevard Richard-Lenoir in Paris, is listed in the 1876 issue of the French national directory, the Annuaire-almanach du commerce de l’industrie, de la magistrature et de l’administration, when it was known as the Franche & Frenais company. Armand Frenais maker’s mark was registered in 1877 and they remained in business up until 1927. The company won awards at the Expositions universelles in Paris of 1878, 1889 and 1900. This set is in very good condition, with the exception of faint scratches and signs of normal use, due to its great age. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page. This elegant and authentic antique flatware set will lend an authentic French atmosphere to your table.
