On the 1st of October 1960, A Presidential decree was issued to change the common circulated coins design by replacing the Sphinx by the republican coat of arms : Saladin's Eagle. However due to the increase in silver prices, the ministry of finance demonetized the coin, recalled it and was replaced by copper nickel coin dated 1967.
