Realme GT 5 2023 Flagship Mobile Phone + GameSir G8 controller & accessories Pack.

Hey and thank you for checking out my listing. Up for sale is something rather special the Realme GT5 smartphone housed in a liquid silver mirror finish and boast's some incredible specification which include the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and Adreno 740 GPU. Super powerful and only out done by its successor the "Gen 3" (not available yet, pre-order). This generation of chipset brought Qualcomm to the forefront in the mobile chipset market giving them the edge in real life testing which surpassed Apple's A17 Pro chipset. For those who know this is seriously impressive and is a real game changer.  

Moving over to rest of the system spec's the GT5 comes with 256GB of system memory and 12GB of RAM (sorry no bragging right with this variant). This handset boost a 6.74" OLED 1B colour 144Hz screen that supports true HDR10+ with it eye blinding 1400nits of brightness. The resolution comes in at 1240x2772 pixels giving an impressive DPI of 451. The body to screen ratio is 88.8%, that's a whole lot of screen to get lost in.

Main camera's on the rear comprise of a 50MP wide angle lens, a 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP microscope lens (yes you read that right a microscope! so maybe one day on a drunken night out at the pub you can whip your phone out and impress everyone with what a peanut looks like up close) lol. On the front is just you standard 16MP selfie lens capable of 1080p. I am impressed with the picture this phone produces but also with the editing options available through Android. A definite leave your main camera at home for your day to day photo captioning needs kinder camera. Ands lets not forget about the 4K 60FPS video capture, its gooodd!  

 

And now for what this phone is probably best known for and its biggest party trick of them all, its SuperVooc quick charging. no this is not the stupidly,  insane, burn your house down (jokes) 240w variant but instead the safer (I hope) 150w variant with a very impressive 10% to 100% charge time of 17 minutes. (I didn't believe it either until the 3rd charge) gone are the days of having to worry about when to charge your phone. (phone nearly out of charge all good put it on charge have a coffee and your phone will be ready for ya by the time you are done) like just WoW...! mind blown. Well coming back down to earth the battery has a capacity of 5240mAh (840mAh more than the insane variant) to which took me 11hrs of all round tinkering to get to 10%. (this was at half brightness mind you as I like to keep my retina's intact). Small but heavy charging block with thick and heavy duty USB-C cable.  

Other worthwhile specification to mention are, fully factory unlocked handset which is compatible of 5G (carrier (Network) dependant, o2 works great). Supports the latest Wifi bands. Latest bluetooth 5.3 aptX HD (24bit/192kHz). All the GPS's, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass. All the bells and whistles you would expect in a smart phone of 2023. 

So after reading all that you may be thinking to yourself, wow sounds pretty dam impressive but is this a review I am reading or an advert, lol! Or perhaps wow what an amazing phone why have I never heard of it until this very unconventional ad?. Well I would say good question and the main reason for this is phone manufactures in China do not release their flagship phones to the western world for exclusivity I believe in order to have dominance in their region from the like's of Apple (don't hold that to me I just made it up).

So now your heavy impressed by the specifications on a phone you have never heard of let me talk a bit about the software on the phone. So the phone comes with a UI called Realme 4.0 which is a custom overlay on top of Android 13 (soon to be 14). Supports some excellent features but shares the same base as phones like the Xiaom, Oneplus, Huawei and such, however variants shipped to the west come with a custom Global ROM which is best suited to the region and include such things as language's and slight alternations to the way the phone operates. some good some bad. As the GT5 was not made for the west it comes as standard with factory default ROM which is Chinese. So perhaps now you are thinking yeah, here comes the caveat! To which I will so no, not at all! (well for the most part). So third party developers have written custom ROMS for this phone which include custom and Global ROMS and my intensions were to flash the phone over to the Global ROM however once I got my hands on one of the handset and did my research into this one major issue cropped up with doing so. 

Hopefully I don't bore you too much with the following but is crucial to understand if you are going to be happy with the handset and its functionality. In order to flash the ROM a part of the kernal (core) has to be unlocked, this is called the bootloader. Unfortunately with this phone and many other once the bootloader has been unlocked it cannot be relocked with the new ROM. So what's the issue with this you may ask? Well the bootloader is designed to keep the UI and its integrity safe and by keeping the bootloader unlocked it becomes vulnerable to security risks such as hacking. So because of this the phone will NOT allow you to update over the air (have to plug into a PC to update) NFC (google pay) will no longer work. Call recording will not work but most importantly as mentioned above your phone data is no longer safe and could easily be extracted from your phone without you even knowing about it. So this got me scratching my head on what to do and what this means for using a Chinese phone in the UK. The short answer is the UI functions, well normally,  so long as you speak English or French as these are the only western languages available to select. When setting up the phone there is a fair bit of of Chinese apps, widgets and the lack of Google play store. But a few hours of deleting and reinstalling the English version of these apps you are left with a phone that is 90% no different to the Global ROM and at least 5% of the 10% accounts for the lack of language's. The UI is 95% in English but there is sub menu's that are in Chinese as well as the widget page however once you add them onto the home page it will be in English. There is about 5 apps that can not be delete but will be hidden in a subfolder and YES everything mentioned above will be done for you when the handset arrives. Below is an example of what the UI looks like in English when first switched on. I will include photo's above of what lit looks like once completely setup.

As mentioned sometime in about 3000 words ago the phone is unlocked to all networks and has support for 5G. HOWEVER this is dependant on your network and which bands it operates under. I am on o2 and 5G work but this may not be the case for your network and if that's the case will default to the 4G signal band. Also you can insert x2 (Giggty) sim cards into the phone.

Ssoo, now that you are fully edumacated in the technicities and thinking about reaching over for your bank card lets make it a sure thing with what's included within this sweet deal. Don't worry no more essays I will try to keep it short-ish.

This being such a powerful phone why not use it to its full  potential, well that's what I thought so is why I am including the latest and greatest offerings form GameSir the Galileo G8 handset controller. Modelled off the the Xbox controller this device lets you attach your phone onto it and basically turns your phone into a steam deck. Realme GT5 aluminium bumper frame with frosted rear PC window in silver. Nice metal framed case that fits the GT5 in it well. Looks good and gives the phone the shape and look of the iPhone 15 Pro. Seams to be a good case fact that its metal and will do a good job at protecting the phone against small bumps and scratches. Unfortunately the case is NOT compatible with the G8 without some slight modifications involving a Stanley blade. However if you prefer not to modify the controller the standard case that's included with the phone fits and works great.
