Book, brochure, periodical and pamphlet conditions.
- New: A brand-new copy.
- As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published. This could be the description for a book that has been lost in a warehouse for years, never shelved, thumbed or even opened yet may still be some years old.
- Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket or pages and is still tight.
- Near Fine/Like New: book may have minor cosmetic defects (marks, wears, cuts, bends, crushes) on the cover, spine, pages or dust cover. Dust cover is intact and pages are clean and not marred by notes. Item may contain remainder marks on outside edges. Item may be missing bundle media.
- Very Good: Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper and may have remainder marks on outside edges. Item may be missing bundled media, be price clipped.
- Good: Describes the average used worn book that has all pages or leaves present (including the dust cover, if applicable). Spine may show signs of wear. Pages may include limited notes and highlighting. May include "From the library of/Ex Librisβ labels. Dust covers, or boxed set case may be missing. Item may be missing bundled media, be Ex-library.
- Fair: Worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates), show shelf wear, but may lack endpapers, half-title, might be bowed, shaken, have fading from light exposure, be darkened, foxing and be quite loose etc. The binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be edge-worn.
- Acceptable: Worn as a fair book but pages might include notes, highlighting, delineation but the text is readable.
- Delicate/Poor: Describes a book that is sufficiently worn. May have missing maps or plates. The copy might be scuffed, stained damp stained, minor water damage or spotted and may have very loose joints, hinges, pages, be chipped etc.
