Here we have a Vintage JAMES SWAN Co. Carpenter Sculptor Carving 3/4" In-Cannel Gouge Chisel.   James Swan immigrated from Scotland in 1854 and worked for a couple of tool manufacturers before buying a small company in 1877 and forming The James Swan Tool Co. in Seymour, Ct.  They primarily manufactured augers, awls, bits, boring machines, chisels, draw knives, handles, and screwdrivers.  The Swan company, along with the Stanley Rule & Level Co., are considered to be the last manufacturers of fine edge tools working at the end of the classic period of American tool making.  The maker mark is stamped in the upper section of the bit.  It is hard to read due to some wear. This socket chisel is in Very Good clean 'used tool' condition (see pics).  It has a nice bit with and sharp edge, however the new owner should check before use.  It has a very good hardwood handle that has wear but no cracks.  It has a metal ring to reinforce the mallet impact end.  The chisel is approx.13” long.  Please review pics to confirm the condition !
