Cotton canvas tote bag from the 1980 Republican National Convention. Original and genuine and unused.
The bag is all sewn sturdy cotton canvas with printed graphics on front and back. The front has the convention logo featuring the GOP elephant in front of the outline of the Renaissance Center office/hotel complex that sits on the Detroit River -just a short walk from Joe Louis Arena where the convention took place. (The hotel tower in the John Portman-designed Renaissance Center was then the world's tallest hotel so the image of the "Ren Cen" was used since the development was only a few years old at that time)

The reverse side has the large ad for Kelly Services, the temporary help staffing company that was founded in Detroit and is still headquartered in the metro-Detroit area.
Very rare official item you can use daily or for grocery shopping.

Bag flat measures 13.5" from bottom central seam to top; handles extend 9" beyond that; width is 14.75"
Bag full shaped is approx 4" thick, 11.75" tall, 10.5" wide.
Everything is sewn. Handles are double-thick material and sewn through the top seam of the bag which is also a double-layer of material.
-from the private collection of the Chairperson of the Host Committee.
