The nut is from the Seychelles but washed up on the shores of India where it was turned into a Hindu Priest Begging Bowel. The name Coco de mer (Coconut of the Sea)  came about as these were very rarely washed up on the shores of India - and were thought to come from a mystical coconut that grew on the ocean floor. In fact they grow on only one island, Praslin in the beautiful Seychelles. Went found in India, the nuts had to be given to the Maharaja. I have owned this for over 30 years - bought it after I visited the Seychelles!
