This Raleigh Lady’s Popular is easily distinguished from other models in the range by the full enclosed chainguard, that differs in style to the Standard or Special models. It’s a loop frame that offers a very comfortable riding position with swept back bars and rod brakes. This particular example has the optional 28 x 1 ½” wheels making it a little taller than the base model, but otherwise its quite utilitarian. The Brooks black vinyl saddle is in great condition for age and the rear mudguard was factory drilled for string skirt guard, which look great. The hubs are stamped with the Raleigh heron logo and are of excellent quality with good chrome. The rims have some pitting on the surface but are still showing the black painted centre line and still spin straight and true as the day they were new. The rear hub has a single speed cog set up making this a simple virtually maintenance free machine. There are some marks and scratches to the paint and the mudguards have a few small dents in them but overall, it’s a nice original machine with a lovely Lucas 2” domed brass bell. The finish looks to be largely original but has been touched in, with the mudguards looking like they have been painted at some point. There is a dent in the nearside seat stay about halfway up, but otherwise its free of any other imperfections. The chrome on the handlebars and stem will clean up well, along with any rod brake parts that were chromed. With an afternoon and some good wax, you could have this machine looking really tidy with not more than elbow grease, but even as it sits it looks the part. I would suggest this bicycle deserves to be ridden and enjoyed in the summer months, as it gives a fuss free experience and transports you to a time long since past.

All parts are cleaned, inspected and fully described in the listings. Sometimes items with internal bearings such as pedals or hubs may need a service if we haven’t got around to doing this before listing, but we will always reflect this information, and make it clear in the listing.

We aim to offer a bicycle part that is ready to fit and enjoy, so frequently, disassemble, clean, re-grease and reassemble, to make sure everything is in full working order.

Complete bikes are checked over, and given a service if required, so they are working as they should and any issues will be listed so you the buyer can assess your purchase.
