For sale is a VERY rare First Edition of Pictures from Italy, by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1846. Illustrated by Samuel Palmer. Collated as complete, with the publisher’s advertisement leaf to the rear.

Bound in a very scarce publisher’s original primary cloth binding of moderate blue diagonally-ribbed cloth. Covers stamped in blind, spine stamped in blind and lettered in gilt. Original pale yellow coated endpapers.

Externally it is in most pleasing condition, with the cloth and gilt largely bright, and the hinges very firm. It is rubbed and marked in places. A small hole in the cloth to the centre of the spine.

Internally collated as fully complete, and it remains pleasingly bright.

Overall, to find an example of this title is indeed rare, particularly bound in such a rare ORIGINAL publisher’s binding. One of the best-loved works of the C19th, this scarce example would grace any collection, and it comes highly recommended.
