I pick up these sea glass pebbles walking the North Beach in Seaham near Durham.  Seaham's Sea Glass is likely to have come from one of the Victorian bottle making factories. The Candlish Bottle Works at Seaham and was once the biggest producers of glass in Europe and manufactured glass between 1850 and 1923. The waste glass or 'end of day' glass was thrown into the sea (then found by me @100 years later, after the waves have worked their magic!).  Local children like to believe they are mermaids tears.
