Pieter van der Aa was a prolific cartographer, engraver, publisher, and bookseller based in Leiden, Netherlands, during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
He was known for producing atlases, maps, and other geographical works.

The hand colored map covers the coasts of Gujarat, Malabar, Bengal, Malacca, and extends up to the powerful Kingdom of Siam (modern-day Thailand) and China.
These regions were of significant interest to European traders and explorers during the Age of Exploration and the early colonial period.

Pieter van der Aa's maps were often published in his own atlases and geographical works.
He operated his publishing house in Leiden, a city known for its rich history in cartography and printing during the Dutch Golden Age.

van der Aa would have likely relied on various sources of information, including reports from explorers, navigational charts, and existing maps.
It's possible that he also collaborated with other cartographers and engravers to gather and compile the necessary data.
