A very nice Stanley Bailey No 6 Plane. It's a type 11, based on the 3 patent dates behind the frog and the low front knob, therefore was manufactured in the USA between 1910 and 1918.

The front knob as you will see has a piece missing. Without having the privilege of communing with the owner who did this, I am 99% certain it was intentional. It's a flush cut, and when you hold it, it provides a nice nesting place for your thumb. It also looks funny, in a humorous way. If you find yourself liking this plane but the modified handle is an issue, get in touch, I can probably swap it for an unmodified one, but it will be a taller version. The rear handle looks to have had a previous repair - it's very good and barely visible unless you look for it. I've tried to capture it in the pictures. It's solid and hasn't budged while I've been toting it around whilst working on it (I like to stress test any potential issues I notice!)

The plane itself is in great condition. I love the patina and the japanning you see is "as is" without any touch ups or overpainting.

The cutting iron looks shorter than it is when loaded, owing to the oversized chip breaker. I've shown it on its own to demonstrate - it has a good length of cutting edge left, and bears the Sweetheart stamp.

I have a No 6 I'm quite fond of, but otherwise I'd be keeping this one!

I'm happy to combine postage costs where I can. Thank you for looking.
