There are 2 power sources: 1)  8 new batteries - size C (which I bought separately and included in this item) and 2) a power cord. 

This system is equipped with non-skid rubber feet to prevent the product from moving when you operate the controls.  

You can play other music sources (iPod, MP3 and other digital audio players) through the speakers of this unit by connecting the AUX IN Jack to your external player's audio out jack or headphone jack.
