This is a small village in northwest Ohio where the Bluffton University lies on 65 acres with just over 1000 students in enrollment.  Bluffton U is a private Mennonite University.  Founded as Central Mennonite College in 1899, it changed its name in 1913 to Bluffton College and again in 2004 to Bluffton University. Mennonites are part of the Anabaptist Protestant Reformation which includes The Amish, Mennonites and Hutterites.   This sect believes in adult baptism, not just infant baptism.

The University is known for its high standards with four principal undergrad degrees: Batchelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor in Science and Batchelor in Nursing.  They also have four master degree programs.
The Citizens National Bank was chartered in January 1920 and succeeded the First National Bank of Bluffton which went into receivership November 17, 1919.

Notes from this village are very, very scarce to rare.  There has been only two National banks chartered in this village.  Population in 2020 census was just under 4000.

There are only six large size notes known on the First National Bank (charter 5626), all of the 1882 DB and VB series.

The Citizens Natonal Bank only issued $5 notes in both the large and small sizes; no other denominations were authorized nor issued. This bank remains independent to this day.  There are only 6 large size notes known on Citizens NB, all 1902 Plainbacks. In total there are only 19 small size notes known: 14 Type 1 and a mere 5 of Type 2. The type 2 note is quite scarce (5 known) and has only appeared at auction three times since 1998, now 26 years.   This note has never before been offered at auction in 26 years.  To be even more poignant, this set represents more than 10% of the known banknotes.  The second note represents 20% of the known population!!
We are privileged to offer this complete set of small size notes.  To our knowledge, such a set has never been offered before elsewhere.

These two notes are noted for their quality.  The Type 1 is a VF-25 by PMG. It is the only TPGed note out of the 19 known.  Further it is the highest grade outside the cut sheet of #228.  All six notes are known of this #228 sheet and are in very strong collectors' hands.  The Type 2 note is tied by census with the highest known grade: EF(45.)

Both of these notes are signed by E.C. Romey as Treasurer and C. Henry Smith as President.  The bank is still held by the Romey family, with J.M. Romey only recently retired as President.
This seller has had only two large size notes from the FNB and two from Citizens.  They are, indeed, rare!  None of those notes are available for sale having been placed in strong collectors' hands.

Quality is like oats:  it is cheaper after the horse than before.  Always, always buy quality.  It is what gains the fastest in price. Good notes are not cheap, and cheap notes are not good.  Quality, QUALITY, QUALITY

As always, shipping by this seller is gratis/free.

N.B.  Sales tax may be an issue for you when purchasing.  Depending upon the state of delivery, you may have sales tax, you may have none, or you may subject to a threshold tax.  PLEASE ASK.  Ebay tells me they are prepared to give refunds for states which have no tax. even though a sales tax may be implemented at the time of sale.  This seller will always assist you.  I have the information on the sales tax applicability for each state. So please consult me.  I have been instrumental in obtaining over $10,000 in sales tax refunds for my eBay clients.  My service for this is FREE to my clients.    My personal issue: sales tax is a levy on tangible personal property.  By definition, all money is intangible, so why should it be taxed at all?  Ever!

These notes have no tears, pinholes nor ink stains.

P.S.:  If you are wondering why a dealer from Miami, Florida is dealing in Ohio National Currency, it is because I spend about 6 months of the year in Ohio, as well.  In Ohio, I am known as a dealer’s dealer and am consulted by other dealers and financial institutions for price guidance and as an acquisition specialist.  The point is: my prices are NOT taken out of the air.  They are carefully decided by the market and rationality.
