Thomas Rosenthal Eclipse Design, Large Lidded Serving Tureen, 1970s Op Art

What a stunning piece!

This lidded serving tureen is beautiful on display or in use. I love the elegant and ergonomic, streammlined handles on this design. Beautiful condition with minimal or no signs of use. Bright and clean.

Approx 20 cm (plus handles of 3.5cm ea) diameter x 8cm deep . Holds around 2L , 1.39kg before packing.

This striking design is one of the standouts of the 20th Century to me in both form and pattern design. High quality German porcelain, beutifully functional forms and a design that just "pops" with the bright white contrasting with the bold use of colour and black line work.

This very smart modernist op-art design is “Eclipse”, made by Thomas of Germany c1970s. (Part of the Rosenthal group) . The bold, crisp design was created by H.T. Baumann & Barbara Brenner for Thomas/Rosenthal. Eclipse was one of several designs at Thomas during this era which had these typically white ground minimalist designs decorated with very bold and striking “op-art” patterns .
