Large antique copper engraved map of Charlemagne's empire by Henricus Hondius (1573-1650). 

This map depicts the European empire of Charlemagne, King of the Franks and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, 742 - 814. The map covers all of Europe and the Mediterranean, excluding Scandinavia. It is fully engraved with mountains, forests, and cities and notations concerning Charlemagne's exploits. A title cartouche with wreath and coat of arms, compass rose and five sailing ships decorate this beautiful map.

Henrik Hondius I or Hendrik Hondius l'Ancien or Henricus Hondius I was an editor and engraver of the Golden age of Dutch cartography. 

Size with margins : 58 x 46,5 cm / 22,8 x 18,1 inches

Edition : Amsterdam, c. 1640 , 17th Century, Latin edition.

Condition : good condition, some repairs on back, a renfort in upper left margin, old colors.
