Édouard Laillet (1853-1927), was a cartographer, writer and engineer.  In 1876, hired by the house Roux and Fraissinet (sugar), he embarks for Madagascar to install a rice peeling plant. He took advantage of his knowledge of the island to establish for the French government a map of the anchorages of the east coast of Madagascar and published in 1877 "The Ports and anchorages of the east coast of Madagascar". It is also the founder and then the honorary president of the Society of French Settlers of Madagascar whose purpose is to promote French influence and also to bring help to the French in difficulty living in Madagascar.

Léon Suberbie (1854-1907) was a French cartographer, he travelled to Madagascar. He made a career at the house Roux de Marseille, then director in Madagascar, operator of gold mines, manager of plantations, coffee, cocoa, cotton, sugar cane, etc..
