𝙵𝚒𝚛𝚜𝚝 𝙴𝚍𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 𝚌𝚘𝚙𝚢 𝚘𝚏 𝚆𝚒𝚗𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚗 𝙲𝚑𝚞𝚛𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚕𝚕'𝚜 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙶𝚊𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚂𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚖

Available is this incredibly rare opportunity to own the genuine First Edition, Volume One copy of Sir Winston Churchill's The Second World War Series. The authenticity has been verified based on the strict guidelines set forth by Chartwell Booksellers, the only standing bookshop in the world devoted to the writings of Sir Winston Churchill. It is simultaneously both a First Edition and a First American Edition, as they were printed at the same time, and is a Book of The Month Club (BOMC) version.

The book overall is in Very Good to Very Fine condition. Below is a detailed description of the condition, as well as the specific attributes that verify its authenticity (available at Chartwell's website).

The boards are brick-red cloth, impressed with blocked gilt and black. On cover, facsimile author signature gilt on black panel; on spine, volume title on black panel, Churchill below volume title, publisher name at foot. The boards are the expected brick red cloth with no fading, as it was clearly kept in its dust jacket and away from direct UV exposure. The front lower right board has a minor indent. No spine fading. It does feature the "blind dot" impression on the lower right back board. Inside the front cover is a pasted down bookplate with the name of the original owner.

The dust jacket is unclipped (BOMC didn't list a price) with minor tears along the edges, but no missing parts. Colors are bright and glossy, with no fading or wear.

Inside, the pages are smooth and unmarked with no yellowing or folded/dented corners. The outside of the pages are crisp and clean as the day the book was printed, except an almost imperceptible smudge on the bottom outer corner from regular use.

The spine and binding are straight and secure, although there is a very slight separation at the title page and verso (pictured) which is an easy repair that can be made prevent a further splitting (I have left that decision up to the next owner, and did not repair it).

For this edition of the book, four manufacturers were used to keep up with the demand so some authentic first editions varied from others, which caused some confusion among booksellers in the 1960's who rely on bibliographic details to classify their wares. A London bookseller H. Mortlake created a "reference catalogue" to better distinguish what is what. Below I have listed the hallmarks in Mortlake's catalog that authenticate the book:
