Antique copper engraved sea chart of the southern coats of Tasmania by Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794), with a detailed inset "Plan de la Baye de l'Aventure sur la Terre Van-Diemen. This map is based on James Cook's voyage. 

The map is decorated with a large compass rose.




Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794) was one of the most important French cartographers of the 18th Century. In 1773, Bonne succeded to Jacques-Nicolas Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. Bonne produced some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne died in 1794, his son Charles-Marie Rigobert Bonne continued to publish his work after his death.
