Foo Dog or Shishi Temple Lion are popular not just in Buddhism but across the world as they symbolize prosperity, success and guardianship, they're full of meaning. Normally they would be made as a male and female pair, the female would be represented with a cub, the male with a ball. They are thought to protect the building from harmful spiritual influences and harmful people that might be a threat so originally would have guarded the entrances to temples, palaces and homes.
