Prophet Daniel - Greek Russian Orthodox Handmade Wooden Cared Icon ~8x10.

Prophet Daniel, a descendant of royal origin, was born in Bethara and lived in the late 7th and early 6th century. He had the gift of interpreting dreams and prophesying. He studied the language and culture of the Babylonians and became a high rank member in the courtyard of Nebuchadnezzar. When Nebuchadnezzar had his own golden image, he ordered all his official and subjects worship it. Daniel refused to worship the image and for that, he was thrown into a lion's den, but he came out unharmed. Seeing the miracle, Darius kept Daniel in his court, where he remained and died in old age, probably, in Sousa. Prophet Daniel’s memory is celebrated on December the 17th.
