Vintage butcher's shop delivery bicycle
This vintage bicycle was made by Hercules in Birmingham.
It probably dates from around 1950, or slightly earlier, and has the frame number 65050.
I believe it was previously used for advertising as it's been painted black all over, including the wheel rims.
It's got a good, solid frame with no rust that measures 23 inches from mid-bottom bracket to top of the seat tube, where the frame number is.
The pannier has a basket which is a tight fit so probably not original but it does look the part.
The pannier fitting has a registered design number of 724921 stamped in it.
I have made a start on recommissioning it. It's had some new front brakes and there's a collection of guides and rear brake parts with the bike. There's also a replacement saddle made by Cycsad.
The tyres show some sign of perishing but they did hold some air for a brief test ride which, apart from the brakes and saddle points mentioned above, showed a little play in the left hand crank which may need a replacement cotter pin.
Please see the pictures for a fuller description of the condition.
