Benham first day coin Cover commemorating the reign of King George V1, issued in 1997.

This 1996 George V1 Accession crown coin cover is dated 10th December and has a Windsor postmark and doubled with 12th May 1997 Westminster Abbey postmark for the Diamond Jubilee of his coronation.

The cover celebrates his Accession, Coronation and Jubilee withthe double postmarks of 10th December 1996 and 12th May 1997.

The cover has a beautiful silk picture of King George V1 on the cover.

Cover has the genuine hand signed signature of Lt. Commander John Bridge.

Lieutenant Commander John Bridge, GC, GM and Bar (1915-2006) was a British bomb disposal expert of the Royal Navy volunteer reserve during the Second World War and a recipient of the George Cross. He was the first person to be awarded a Bar to the George Medal. He was involved in the Allied invasion of Italy and the Normandy landings.

The citation for hIs George Cross Read: "for the most conspicuous and prolonged bravery and contempt of death in clearing Messina Harbour of depth charges. Recommending officer stated that he had never before had the fortune to be associated with such cool and sustained bravery as Lieutenant Bridge displayed during the 10 days of the operation". Bridge received the medal from King George V1 at Buckingham Palace on 16 March 1945.

The headquarters of the Fleet Diving Squadron of the Royal Navy is named the Bridge Building after John. He died in 2006 Aged 91 just before the official renaming ceremony. The guard of honour at his funeral was formed of Royal Navy Clearance Divers and he is considered one of the fathers of the branch.
