Sony Walkman WM-FX477
Fully repaired and tuned Sony Walkman WM-FX477 with the correct case and correct Sony headphones (MDR-023), not just some random vintage-ish headphones. 1999 20th Anniversary Model. I specifically chose this model to repair as 1999 was important as the kind-of the pinnacle cassette technology as this is the same year Sony released the MiniDisc as well as their first "MP3" player. All functions working correctly, as it was disassembled completely cleaned, lubricated, and repaired. 2 points where the plastic was broken were repaired with plastic cement. A broken tape adjustment resistor was found and replaced/resoldered, as well as a faulty belt, which was replaced. All capacitors are in good condition and the supercapacitor retains a charge correctly so the LCD stays lit after the batteries are taken out. Tape head, capstans, and pinch rollers were cleaned. The volume pot was cleaned as were the contacts for the headphones jack. Radio functions 100% and the tape speed has been correctly adjusted within the acceptable ±1.5%.
A cosmetic hairline fracture exists on the right side of the face, extending out from the "HOLD" switch. It cannot be repaired without damaging the original silver paint in my opinion. Please see the picture of the of the face. By no means is this a perfect example, but one with character, age and use. It has played several of my cassettes without issue after repair and will be a great addition to someone's working collection (not just for show). As one of the all-plastic models this one ranks well amongst the feather-touch transports. Included is the letter written in the WM-EX20 (sorry no CD-ROM included) and the Press Release from 1999, both celebrating the 20th anniversary models.
