Antique, Dimpled, Sterling Silver Thimble with a Thin Faceted Rim.  Possibly Made by Either Joseph Gloster or John Culver, Birmingham, England, 1887.

This is a nice, thick walled and heavy thimble with only minor wear and some scratches visible on the rim that look worse magnified in the pictures than they do in real life.  Having spent what feels like hours trying to read and find a match for the indistinct makers mark, I believe I have narrowed it down to J.G or J.C.  Matching the style of the writing along with the period in between I believe this thimble could be attributed to either Joseph Gloster or John Culver, in Birmingham, England, 1887.  I have included copies of both of their makers marks from this time period in the photos for your consideration.  Expert opinions welcomed.

The silversmiths Joseph Gloster, were founded in 1880.  They were highly regarded for their sterling silver items from the Victorian era until the 1960s.  Their premises was situated at Lion Silver Works, Hockley Hill in Birmingham, England.

John Culver appeared to work at various times in London, Chester and Birmingham making jewelry and thimbles.
