The 2024 Light of Liberty is the inaugural design in the Light of Liberty Trilogy, which aims to reimagine Lady Liberty and offer a fresh approach to an American icon through the talents of international master engravers. Kicking off the series is a design by Susan Taylor, renowned former Senior Engraver of the Royal Canadian Mint and designer of the iconic Canadian Peace Dollar.
Taylor’s rendition of Lady Liberty depicts a commanding figure standing on the shore, raising a torch in one hand and firmly planting a large American flag into the ground by her side.
The obverse features a bald eagle designed by former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and legendary artist, John Mercanti. With its wings outstretched, the highly detailed bird embodies liberty and freedom as it soars high above the rugged terrain as a radiant sun peaks over the horizon. The design also features the coat of arms of the island nation of Samoa.
Struck from 5 oz of .999 fine silver, this coin has been meticulously crafted in Dual Ultra-High Relief and displays a beautiful Enhanced Reverse Proof finish. Each coin has been graded flawless PF70 by NGC with the First Releases designation.
