Ted Hook "The Old English Gentleman"

A Boxer from Nottingham

A very early Pictorial Boxing Ticket circa 1870

Probably the earliest known boxing ticket illustrated with an image of the fighter

Pictured is "Ted Hook: The Old English Gentleman” of Nottingham, England.

Printed by T. Smith, also of Nottingham.

Numbering “797” with an added “B” indicates this was a betting slip / receipt as indicated on the reverse, which states:

'Important. You are respectfully requested to take the same care of my tickets as I do of your money.

If you give or allow anyone else to take your ticket you will lose your money. One loss - one payment!'

12 x 6 cm, very good condition

A rare item, I have found only one other from my research - a faded example with glue residue,

unlike this item which is in very good condition,

it sold at Leland’s specialist boxing auction in the US for $577.00 in 2003
