One of the earliest folio size Bibles printed in America, this Berriman Bible was printed in Philadelphia, PA in 1796.  This single volume edition of what is also called the “Hot Press Bible,” has been painstakingly rebound by a professional bookbinder in spindled genuine English calfskin leather, hand-dyed and antiqued to a medium dark brown finish.  This edition has an interesting provenance as it was originally the pulpit bible for the Epworth Methodist Church, formerly located on 13th and N. Carolina Ave. NE. in Washington D.C. The original covers are included separately, bearing the names of the original owners of the Bible, James and Ann McConkey. (See photo- “History of the McConkey Family Bible” for complete provenance of ownership). Some staining and foxing throughout; there are professional repairs made to several pages, as well as an archival envelope provided on the inside back board for six of the most damaged pages.
