This vintage toy set is complete in the original box. All pieces are in excellent vintage condition and appear to never have been used.  The box has a tape repair inside the lid. See last picture.  Included in pictures is a page from the 1957 McCalls referred to below.

I copied this information from an identical item sold recently on eBay.

"In looking for research on the history of this Betsy activity, I checked Marci Van Ausdall’s Betsy McCall resource book, Betsy McCall – A Collector’s Guide.  She does not mention this item and because this is the only one that I have seen in my 37 or so years of active Betsy collecting, I believe it is very rare.

The best description I could find is the one I copied from the ebay auction from this very set that I purchased many years ago.  “This is an interesting piece.  Although Betsy McCall is NEVER mentioned anywhere, the cover graphics are almost identical to the July 1957 – “Betsy McCall’s Tea Party” where the figures are wearing B21 ‘Holiday’ and B2 ‘Schoolgirl’ (although the ‘Schoolgirl; dress is GREEN on the lid, not blue).  The background of the graphic is also blue with white stars versus the paper doll page was (light blue) with blue stars.  The set is LITTLE HOSTESS SET - and is by L.H.&C., Inc., New York, Made in Japan.  I am sure it was NOT licensed!”

The china set includes:

-- tea pot with lid

-- cream pitcher and sugar with lid

-- 6 tea cups

-- 6 saucers

-- 6 plates
