Here are a pair of vintage Mexican cartoneria / papier mache sculptures, hand crafted in Xalisco in the late 20th century.

The traditional handicraft of cartoneria has a rich history in Mexico, dating back to the colonial period. Since then, the craft has developed, especially in central Mexico. Various papier mache items such as pinatas, masks, dolls and figures have become popular collectors items.

These two figures depict street traders holding their wares, which have also been handmade from clay. They both retain their original artisan labels.

They stand approximately 32 cm tall and are in good overall condition with some wear and tear including small rips and some damage to the pots that they are carrying. Please study the photos.
