Maker: This striking vase is by the highly regarded European maker Villeroy & Boch, the world’s largest manufacturer of ceramics. V&B has been in business for over 260 years. It is justifiably famous for producing fine luxury tableware and this vase is no exception.

Design: It features a beautiful peacock on one side and lovely muted green, blue and red flowers on the other. The pattern is called Paon - the French word for peacock.

Age and marks: On the base is the classic green Villeroy & Boch Mettlach "mercury" mark that dates the vase to the 1960s. The mark includes the phrase "Mettlacher Kupferdruck-Unterglasurdekor - Seit 1748", which means "Mettlach Copper Print Underglaze Décor Since 1748". The phrase "Made in Germany" and the word "handausgemalt (hand painted) also appear. The impressed number 4225/1 is to the right of the mark.

Condition: The vase is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, discoloration, marks, wear or repairs. There is a spot of blue tint under the glaze that was created in the manufacturing process; it can be seen in the photos.

Size: The vase is 13 inches tall, 4 1/4 inches wide at the top and 3 3/8 inches wide at the base. It weighs 2 pounds 12 ounces.
