2-CD Set !! " of the Beyond-Legendary !! Grateful Dead Europe '72 Tour !!!
... ' Original ' November 5, 1972 3 LP Album release ! This " CD
" release of the Album came just about 3-years-ago ! now - just a few
years after ' CD Technology ' had finally rolled-around. And, to say this
" Europe '72 " was ' anxiously-awaited ' by the Deadhead Fan Faithful
! would indeed be an understatement. As I Always-Loved ! Truckin' around
the Grateful Dead Concert Venue " Lots " in the Late-'80's &
Early/Mid-'90's Era ... and just see how-many Cars & Trucks were just
" Blastin ' ! " Europe '72 !! - with the windows-down, naturally ...
so All ! could Hear-It !! As me & my Tour Buddies would always look at
each other & say - " Yep ... Europe '72 !!! ". Ha !
And, needless to say - this is most-certainly a " Legendary ! "
Live-Dead release - which came in the form of a well-assembled compilation
Album - released on LP ( 3 LP ) on 11/5/72 - and, naturally too ... it's one
that Still ! gets " Completely-Rocked !! by Fans " here today, and
really always has been, and always will. The Track-Selections are all
obviously from the April > May, 1972 " European Tour " - and they
really span nicely all-throughout- ranging from the 1st " Tour-Stop "
at the Wembley Empire Pool in London, England ! ( 4/8/1972 ) ... all the way to
the Last " Tour-Stop " at the Lyceum Theatre in London, England (
5/26/1972 )- the 1st Show ! ... providing ' Must-Hear ' Highlights ! - of the
nothing-short of " Magical !! " Grateful Dead Europe '72 Tour
!!! And as you might well expect - considering the Time & Era of
Grateful Dead Music we are talking about here ... the Band strikes musical-gold
right off of the " Launch " on this Magical ! Europe '72 Tour
!!! Seven ( 7 ) Shows were played prior at the Academy of Music in New
York City in Late-March ( 3/21-28/72 ), and if you have heard pieces, parts or
all of that magnificent run - then you already know how " effective "
that NYC run was as the ideal " Tour Warm-Up " for this Big-Time
Europe '72 stretch that was right around the corner. Europe '72 kicked
off at the Wembley Empire Pool in London on 4/7/72 !! And right after
this, the Band performed at the " City Hall " at Newcastle upon Tyne,
England, then to Copenhagen, Aarhus ( Denmark ), " back " to
Copenhagen, to Bremen ( Germany ), to Dusseldorf ( W. Germany ), to Frankfurt (
W. Germany ), to Hamburg ( W. Germany ), to Paris, to the Bickershaw Festival (
Wigan, England ), to Amsterdam, to Rotterdam, to France, to Luxembourg, to
Munich ... and then back again to London for a final 4-night stand at the
Lyceum ! Wow !! As I certainly hope that you might have been one of
the very-fortunate ones that attended this incredible Europe '72 " Tour
Opener " - now close-to 50-Years ago! As these April & May, 1972
Shows & Song-Tracks ! are really just So-Legendary ! ... and these 2-CD's
provide such an excellent ' snap-shot ' of what the Grateful Dead were up to '
Live ' ( & in Europe ! ) in just their 7th ! year together. As this
was, after all ' new-territory ' for the Grateful Dead - as the sands in the
hour glass all of a sudden turned 1965 - into 1972 ! ... and my oh my did they
Rise ! to this fine occasion. The New York Academy of Music run prior, in
March ( the Europe '72 warm-up run of Shows, essentially ) ... was indeed Hot
! But this Fans - was truly a 7-week-period of finding that "
New-Level ! "... just Superb ! Good Ol' ( & New ! ) Grateful Dead
!!! I mean just think about playing 22-Shows in European Venues that you
have never played before, much less even been in ?!? No familiarity at
all ... and, as the recordings show - it didn't matter at all ! ( as
so-thankfully - Warner Bros. provided a state-of-the-art 16-Track Recorded ! -
and, these 2-CD's here are indeed the fruits of it's labor ). But, in
fact ... this actually worked in the ' other ' direction - by
Massively-Inspiring ! the Band !! ... with the New Adventure on Playin' In The
Band ! - in Un-familiar Territory !! And, I mean ... Wow !! - as indeed
is the " Classic-List ! " of Grateful Dead " Europe '72 "
