First printing, signed by the author. North Montpelier, VT: The Driftwind Press, 1942
170 pages. 5 x 7 5/8 inches
A very good copy of the first printing of Gilbert Byron's first book of poetry, with tipped-in pastedown illustrations by Delaware artist Jack Lewis. One illustration is absent.
Gilbert Byron (1903-1991) was known as 'The Chesapeake Thoreau' and the 'Voice of the Chesapeake'. His eloquent poetry and prose captured perfectly the romantic, often difficult and sometimes perilous existence of the nearly extinct Chesapeake Bay waterman of the early 20th century.
First printing. Signed and inscribed by author on free end paper.
