“Thunder in the Mountains: The Life and Times of Madera Sugar Pine" is Hank Johnston’s thorough history of the Madera Sugar Pine Company which had its beginning in 1899, logging and lumbering until 1933 in the Sierras.  With many b/w photos, several maps, engine roster and other illustrations to augment his text, he shows the country and operations.  Six of the seven locomotives were Shays.

This 128-page, quarto-size, hardcover book was published in 1968 by Trans-Anglo Books as their stated first edition. The book is in like-new condition with no damage - no text markings, no jammed corners, no dog-eared pages.  The dust jacket is in very good condition with no tears or creases but there is a small chip at the top of the spine and is protected by a mylar cover.  The photos are of this very book.  This book will be packed and shipped in a box to prevent damage.
