Dead Fans !!!  Offered here is the Very-Rare ! - Elusive !! & Amazing !!! Grateful Dead " Spirit of '76 " Bonus Disc CD ( 1-CD ) which was included ' Only ! ' with the Pre/Early Order releases of the Grateful Dead - Live at the Cow Palace - 3-CD Set way back in 2007 !  This Amazing ! " Spirit of '76 " Bonus Disc CD consists of Eight ( 8 ) rare tracks from Four ( 4 ) different Shows / Venues on the 1976 Summer & Fall Tours !!!  Wow ... pretty much, Wow !?!!  That's about all I could think when I first heard this release upon its debut way back in 2007.  As with much of 1976 during the Summer & Fall Tours, that Good Ol' ' saying ' definitely holds true with the Live-Magic ! contained on this " Spirit of '76 " Bonus Disc --- When Phil's On The Band's On !!!!!  After I listened to this one in entirety for the very first time, I vividly remember playing it again! in entirety the very next day - because it was just that good, or at least to my ears.  I usually never do that ( rarely ! ), because there is just so much other worthy music to get to - especially today, in this digital age. You know, so much Grateful Dead - and so little time !!  But my goodness ... the musical tones and creative versions ( & segue-transitions ! ) here just fully-demonstrate that the Band was thrilled to be back & rip-roaring after their brief Late '74-Early '75 brief group ' Hiatus ', and this is truly one of the neatest ' transitional ' periods of all-time for the Grateful Dead !  Their sound as a unit was genuinely changing, and whoever thought any change was even needed !?!  Just some really amazing " evolution " here ... right on the heels of  '77 !!!  My focus always seemed to be on the Spring through Fall / Winter Tour in 1977 ( arguably at their very-best ) in this Prime-era overall, but there is some real freshness & creativity to these " Spirit of '76 " tracks that really shines through & through - before set lists got a bit more " settled-into " throughout '77, which is really the only worthy criticism of that period that I have ever heard and/or discussed ( i.e. only 3 Morning Dews played in 1977, etc.. ).  In my personal opinion this one is way-beyond a " Must-Have ! ", with all Dead Fan seriousness.  It is very rare, extremely scarce, and of course ... Extremely-Hot !! ( Naturally ... )  The Band is Ultra-Tight, Fluid & just ' On ' ... and if you really liked the 3-CD " Cow Palace " release itself, well - then this one here is a complete no-brainer.  And probably the neatest part ( other than the caliber of the performances, obviously ... ) is that there are tracks from 4 different Venues right on this release ! -- inside Boston - Cincinnati - Williamsburg ( Virginia ) & Columbus ( Ohio ) !!!!  Always fun to compare & contrast the energy, mood, and all of that other Grate ! Live G.D. stuff - you know ... the most vital & important info !!  You bet ... I'm a " Spirit of '76 " Fan !  A Totally !! impressive G.D. ' Bonus Disc CD ' release ...  Enjoy !!!!!
