I recommend getting high quality rechargeable AA batteries. "Ikea Ladda 2450 mAh" and "Eneloop" are good options.

The screen brightness and pixel settings are controlled by the touch sensor located at the top of the gameboy (you can see it through the clear shell). 

• Tapping the sensor will change brightness
• Pressing and holding will change pixel settings
