HOUSEHOLD ARTIFACTS

I purchased these Turkman tribal earrings in the Istanbul, Turkey market in 1990.

These Turkman earrings are coin silver quality with sterling wires per my silver testing kit but they are not marked. The “round brilliant cut” GLASS rubies are set upside down unlike what we are used to. The flat area of the GLASS rubies are glued with Elmer’s glue as they fell out from the setting and I didn’t want to take a chance and lose the glass rubies. The original gemstones may have been rubies as they are mined in Afghanistan. One of the GLASS rubies tips is chipped.

The earrings measure 4 inches long from the wire that hangs from your ear lobes to the tip of the dangling circular stamped disks. The central teardrop piece that houses the glass ruby measures 1 and 7/8ths inches.
