These are the questions that most antiques lovers, professional or amateur, will ask when faced with an interesting piece.with over 800 pages of fully described photographs, price ranges, market news and collecting advice, Miller’s Antiques Price guide 1998 will help you find the answers you need.
In this, the 19th edition of the guide, 10,000 new photographs are featured, showing antiques that have sold in all areas of trade - antique shops and auction houses, markets and fairs. The emphasis is very much on pieces that are affordable and readily available, with many items from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
All the major collecting areas are given through coverage, including furniture, ceramics, clocks, dolls, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. In this year’s edition special attention is given to glass, silver, watches, Moorcroft pottery, lamps and lighting, rugs and carpets, jewellery, ephemera and marine antiques. There is a new section on Islamic works of art appealing feature on chairs made for children.
As ever there is a wealth of reference information, including directories of dealers, specialists and auction houses, a useful glossary of terms, fact boxes on key makers and identification tips. The “Miller’s compares” feature highlights and explains the difference in value and quality between pieces that look almost identical.
A best- seller since 1979, Miller’s Antiques Price guide is the most comprehensive review of antiques and their values available. Dubbed the “Bible” of antiques trade, it is an essential companion for everyone interested in antiques, either professionally or for pleasure.
