SWEET ANTIQUE BURL WALNUT & EBONISED FRENCH 8 DAY MANTEL CLOCK / TIMEPIECE c1880

Clothed in beautiful burl walnut with ebonised trimming, this superb smaller clock is absolutely charming. The walnut has taken on a glorious "old leather" colour, with a deep rich shine. The smokey grain of the wood, the fish scale fret-work and ornate carry handle adding to its very good looks. It stands 7 1/2 inches high (not including the carry handle), 5 1/2 inches wide and just 3 1/2 inches deep.

Set into this fabulous backdrop is the white dial behind its brass bezel and bevelled glass. Fine steel hands complete a handsome face. Inside beats a quality, French, 8 day, platform movement. The platform means the clock will run on any surface, level or not, without the need to set it in beat.

Condition: wonderful. The colour and patina superb. It has the odd bump or mark, but nothing unexpected from an item 140+ years old, and nothing to detract from its very good looks. The clock runs well, keeping good time and is complete with a double ended key, ready to go.
