Battle of Britain 15 September 1940. On the 15th of September at 11.05 72 Sqd with 92 Sqd attacked a large formation of enemy planes over London including He111s being escorted by the newly introduced Me 109 E-7 fitted with long range fuel tanks. Sgt Rolls Lead Green Section of 72 Sqd diving down below the formation spotted an Me 109 chasing another Spitfire as it climbed he climbed after it and gave a 2-3 second burst of fire into the planes belly seeing hits, having to avoid other Me l09s a damage claim was made.
