Elegant ecru coloured porcelain tea set in minimalistic design, with gilding. Set includes teapot, sugar bowl, two tea pairs (duos) of cup and saucer and flower-shaped tea strainer on small stand plate.
Teapot, sugar bowl and tea pairs have hallmarks of renown German porcelain company, Villeroy&Boch (one of period 1947-1956 and one of 1913-1947). Manufacturer's story started long time ago in Lorraine/Lothringen, in the mid-18th century with Francois Boch and his sons, who worked with faience. During the history, with transitions of territories, changes of borders, French Revolution, their enterprise expanded. Nicholas Villeroy from Metz, salt trader, was a co-owner of one of Boch's factories. The friendship of Jean-Francois Boch, grandson of Francois, as well as their exchanges of funds and expertises, evolved in creation of joint company Villeroy&Boch on 14 April 1836. Today the company is represented in 125 states around the world and 14 manufactoring plants in Europe, Asia and Africa, where Villeroy&Boch produces all kinds of ceramics and porcelain, aesthetic and usefull. The company is still ruled by 8 and 9 generation of heirs of Francois Boch and Nicholas Villeroy.
Stand plate of tea strainer has a hallmark of Schwarzenhammer Schumann&Schreider porcelain manufactory from Bavaria (period 1905-1923). It was founded by Christoph Schumann (his brother Carl also was porcelain producer) and his father-in-law Karl August Schreider. They were known for their fine tablewares. The company was closed in 1986.
The condition is excellent, with some traces of age and usage, loses of gilding. Teapot has some dark-pale stains around handle (can be seen on photos). There is some "craquelure" effect on gilding of teapot's handle and one of cups.
