Set of 5 elegant tall porcelain mazagran (mazagrin) cups, decorated with birds images. Mark of Limoges porcelain factory.

"Mazagran" refers both to a kind of cup and coffee beverage. According to the most common version, the beverage was invented by French soldiers situated in Mazagran fort in Algeria: when they ran out of alcohol, they drank very strong with some sweet coffee diluted with water, served in tall glass cups without handles. After soldiers returned to France, the beverage became popular among common people. Nowadays mazagran cups are also widely used for drinking tisane, or herbal tea. Also such kind of cups are suitable for "long" coffee or chocolate drinks like caffe latte, cacao etc.
