A nice, large WWII Navy flag for the victory over Japan.  It is a simple red "V" on a blue field.  I haven't been able to find out if these were flown from all Navy ships after the surrender, just those involved in the Pacific campaign or just those present at the surrender ceremony.  It may have also been used by the Royal Navy based on the markings.  It is over 7 feet long by approx. 5-1/2 feet wide and is made of wool or linen.  It is marked "BRIT.U.S. 3" in the style seen on flags produced at Mare Island.  The condition is very good with no rips or significant holes.  It has some age and soiling.  The only issue is that someone wanted to display this by sliding it on a piece of conduit and removed the halyard rope to do so.  Signs of the rope being sewn in are still present but, the rope is completely gone.
