'First Men: Neil Armstrong' (CMDR) Apollo 11 Artist Proof Limited Edition Print signed by Alan Bean Lunar Module Pilot [LMP] Apollo 12 with a Certificate of Authenticity [CoA]

Alan Bean was an acclaimed Fine Art Space Artist, the Lunar Module Pilot [LMP] for Apollo 12 and the 4th Man to Walk upon the Moon!

In Alan Bean's 'Monet' style this art reflects Alan Bean's mastery of colours and detail.

This is an important Artist Proof Limited Edition Print which is a very clever 'reverse' depiction of what Neil Armstrong would have looked like on the Moon at the moment that Neil was taking his photo of Buzz Aldrin on the lunar surface.

That photo of Buzz on the lunar surface became one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century around the World.  Here Buzz Aldrin and the Lunar Module Eagle are beautifully reflected in Neil’s gold layered visor.

Neil Armstrong was the First Man to walk on the Moon where he was joined 20 minutes later by 'Buzz' Aldrin [LMP].  Both had made the first Moon landing in the Lunar Module 'Eagle' just a few hours earlier.

There were only 50 of these beautiful 'First Men: Neil Armstrong' (CMDR) Apollo 11 Artist Proof Limited Edition Prints signed by Alan Bean created for the Worldwide market, each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity [CoA]

Alan Bean's distinguishing art!  The tools Alan Bean used to explore the Moon were also used by him to put the Moon's stamp on each painting he created. Exact replicas of his Moon boots were used to make footprints across the painting's surface, reminiscent of the Apollo boot prints remaining on the Moon today. Streaks etched on the painting's surface are from the same geology hammer he used on the Apollo 12 mission. Finally, a sharp edged bit from one of the core tubes is used to make the circular indentations in the surface. These are beautifully captured in each edition.

Description (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023).

'First Men:Neil Armstrong' (CMDR) Apollo 11 Artist Proof Limited Edition Print signed by Alan Bean Lunar Module Pilot [LMP] Apollo 12 is exciting Moon Art and a defining classic by Alan Bean.

Alan Bean was the only human being in history to become a fine art Master Artist to paint various Apollo mission experiences based on his own personal real experience of having been to, and walked on the Moon!  Here are a few words about this fine art by Alan Bean:

“I guess every astronaut wanted to be the first man on the Moon. I know I did,” says Alan Bean. “And if we couldn't be the first, we at least wanted to be one of the first. Apollo 11’s crew got the opportunity to make the first attempt. Neil, Buzz and Mike flew a perfect flight and went into the history books; but all 400,000 Americans that helped make Apollo a success are in that history, too.

“I think this painting is exactly how Astronaut Neil Armstrong looked as he took the now-iconic photo of his lunar companion, Buzz Aldrin,” says the artist. “It is the image we would see in Buzz’s gold visor in my painting First Men-Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin - if we could look close enough.”

This 'First Men: Neil Armstrong' signed by Alan Bean captures all the vivid color and brilliance of the original Alan Bean's work of art.

The 'hallmark' of a Master Space Artist is in their ability to show different types of moments in the harsh environment of space and its different elements.  This art is stunning in the way Alan Bean reversed the famous scene of 'Buzz' Aldrin on the Moon to depict how Neil Armstrong would have looked as he took Buzz's photo, even down to the correct reflections and and calculated lighting.

Mission Profile (source Wikipedia)

Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930-August 25, 2012) was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who was the first person to walk on the Moon. He was also a naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor.

A graduate of Purdue University, Armstrong studied aeronautical engineering with his college tuition paid for by the U.S. Navy under the Holloway Plan. He became a midshipman in 1949, and a naval aviator the following year. He saw action in the Korean War. Later, he completed his bachelor's degree at Purdue and became a test pilot at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) High-Speed Flight Station at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He was the project pilot on Century Series fighters and flew the North American X-15 seven times. He was also a participant in the U.S. Air Force's Man in Space Soonest and X-20 Dyna-Soar human spaceflight programs.

Armstrong joined the NASA Astronaut Corps in the second group, which was selected in 1962. He made his first spaceflight as commander of Gemini 8 in March 1966, becoming NASA's first civilian astronaut to fly in space. During this mission with pilot David Scott, he performed the first docking of two spacecraft; the mission was aborted after Armstrong used some of his reentry control fuel to remove a dangerous spin caused by a stuck thruster. During training for Armstrong's second and last spaceflight as commander of Apollo 11, he had to eject from the Lunar Landing Research Vehicle moments before a crash.

In July 1969, Armstrong and Apollo 11 Lunar Module pilot Buzz Aldrin performed the first manned Moon landing, and spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command and service module. When Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface, he famously said: "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." Along with Collins and Aldrin, Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon. President Jimmy Carter presented Armstrong with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, and Armstrong and his former crewmates received a Congressional Gold Medal in 2009.

Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed the first two humans on the Moon. Mission commander Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Aldrin, both American, landed the lunar module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:18 UTC.   Armstrong and Aldrin then moved into the lunar module Eagle and landed in the Sea of Tranquillity.

Armstrong became the first to step onto the lunar surface six hours later on July 21 at 02:56:15 UTC; Aldrin joined him about 20 minutes later. They spent about two and a quarter hours together outside the spacecraft, and collected 47.5 pounds [21.5 kg] of lunar material to bring back to Earth.  They stayed a total of about 21.5 hours on the lunar surface.

Michael Collins piloted the command module Columbia alone in lunar orbit while they were on the Moon's surface.

About Alan Bean

This fine art offering is from a terrific Fine Art Artist and Astronaut who walked upon the Moon and is truly a 'Lifetime' opportunity.

Obtaining Alan's work such as this in future years is nigh impossible, especially for a 'Historic Subject' such as this.  'That's how it Felt to Walk Upon The Moon' which sold out commercially in 1988 soon after its release, is one such example.

Alan Bean Original Paintings now typically sell for US$250,000 to US$500,000, but were sometimes US$30,000 in the 1980s.  Alan Bean Master Art Work Limited Editions typically increase in value over time as well.

Astronaut and artist Alan Bean was not only the first artist to paint a world other than our Earth who actually went there, he was the first in history to paint our Earth after viewing it from space. His art's significance as the original human interpretative record of man's first off-world experience will only increase in its importance and value over time.

Alan Bean, Astronaut and Alexey Leonov, Cosmonaut were the only Space Travellers to become Fine Art Artists. Enjoy the beauty of Alan Bean's Moon Art upon your wall from the only Astronaut who walked upon the Moon and then became a fine art Space Artist.

Collectors Hints (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023).

Collectors Hint 1 - What is a 'Artist Proof' Limited Edition Print?

'Artist Proofs' are a special early subset of the regular limited edition, limited to the first 10% of the print run.  An ‘Artist Proof’ is just that, an ‘Artist Proof’ and may or may not be numbered at the discretion of the Artist.  They therefore usually sell for 20-50% more than the regular edition print.

The 'Artist Proofs' are the first prints pulled off a fresh "stone", the plate which was drawn or etched by the artist to create the Limited Editions.

A really serious or specific Collector usually prefers the 'Artist Proof' if one is available, because of the extra quality and value they represent.

Collectors Hint 2 - What is a 'Giclee' Limited Edition Print?

A Limited Edition Print uses the Giclee printing technique for very high quality and provide 'Stand Out Impressiveness' upon your Wall.

The Term: The term "Giclee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology, which is exactly what it is.

Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The Giclee printing process provides better colour accuracy than other means of reproduction. Archival quality ensures that the prints are light-fast and non-water soluble.

The Quality: The quality of the Giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatine printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.

They are stunningly beautiful in their presentation for that ‘Stand Out Impressiveness’ upon your wall.
