After James Robinson’s short-lived run on this new 1999 JSA series, new-to-comics Geoff Johns took over writing the JSA. Issues 6-8 feature the entire three-part “Darkness Falls” storyline featuring Obsidian. Obsidian, the son of Alan Scott, is behind the odd phenomena in Milwaukee where nothing and no one casts a shadow. The Justice Society of America answers the call to be confronted by shadow monsters. Obsidian reveals himself to the JSA except for Alan Scott, who gets trapped in the Shadowlands. Alan Scott is there confronted by Ian Karkull, an old foe of the JSA. He explains how his power of the darkness has allowed him to survive for many years and he has manipulated Obsidian to assist him in his return to Earth.
