Eighth - generation Hagi potter Kaneta Masanao was born in 1953 and started his career producing traditional pieces on the potters wheel.  However, in time he expanded beyond the tradition to create more sculptural works.  Many of his works are created using the technique of kurinuki - a process of carving forms out of a single block of clay.  This produces the strong sculptural forms for which his has become globally famous.  His works are included in many important international museum collections.
