The HERTEL & REUSS (of KASSEL) TELEVARIABEL 25-60 ZOOM telescope (or early spotting scope) was a popular german made model with birdwatchers and hunters in the 1960`s. In the U.K. it was cheaper and probably more readily available than some of its more expensive competitors, so survivors must be out there but they very rarely come on the market.

This example is in very good working order and free from any external damage and is still housed in its good original leather case with leather straps. The TELEVARI (as it was often shortened to in the u.k.), is a two draw design, the second shorter draw is the zoom control with the focusing adjustment sleeve just behind it. The draw tubes have good resistance and the optics are performing very well. I have used this vintage scope on a tripod from my lounge scanning the long field opposite for hares and deer and can confirm it delivers fine images – despite some minor internal imperfections - and is great to use especially if you like retro instruments.

Defects: some age and usage marks on the main scope body; some minor internal dust specks and some small mould/fungal spots on the rear of the objective lens.
