A Stanley Bailey No 4 Smoothing Plane. This is an early UK manufacture. The lateral lever has the horizontal "Stanley" stamp, and the depth wheel is constructed of hardened rubber and Brass, which indicates it was made during World War two when brass was in short supply.


The lever cap has a coppery tint, which from what I gather is from the plating wearing off and revealing a copper layer, which was used as a base layer for the plating process.
