Rare Antique Victorian 18K Gold, Enamel & Human Hair Braidwork Pocket Watch Key

This very rare pocket watch key was made around 1880 in Central Europe. It features an oval 18K gold frame with glass windows which reveal a flower framed monogram in the front and French human hair braidwork in the back. The frame is finely crafted from black enamel with white enamel flowers. The piece was likely a piece of mourning jewelry that a gentleman used as both, a tool for winding his pocket watch, and a keepsake of a beloved deceased family member.

Measures approx. 1 3/4" long x 7/8" wide and weighs ca. 4.8 grams.

A gorgeous piece from an intriguing era of history!
