A complete hand made 18th century style housewife or maid costume, probably for a young girl (perhaps 10-14 years depending on stature) judging by the size of the bonnet which is too short for an adult-sized head, though some of the garments would also fit a small woman - see measurements below. I think it was made for a drama production but I can't be sure. It has been in my friend's family for years and she wants it to go to a good home. The various pieces have been quite competently made from either 100% cotton or polycotton fabrics, some recycled from household linens. It comprises a cream bonnet with pleating, an apron which ties at the back, a matching blue top and skirt, the latter with gathers at each side which can be pulled in, an undergarment or nightdress which has been made from a sheet and a vintage tablecloth using the edging lace for the bodice and sewing it on in a rudimentary way, a belt-like garment and two hip pockets on a string. The top measures 36" across the chest and has a flat panel at the back of the bodice, and 32" at the waist and 17" from shoulder to hem. The skirt is huge at the waist/hips being gathered on to cotton ribbons which can be pulled it to fit - see photos - and it measures 29" from waist to hem. The nightdress or underslip measures 32" across the chest and 36" from shoulder to hem and the apron measures c. 32" at the chest and 34" from shoulder to hem. Please see my other clothing listings as I am having a clear out and will combine postage for more than one item - just wait for an invoice from me before paying.

Please read the condition report as there a tiny condition issue with the apron and take note of the measurements and view the photos carefully I do not accept returns.
